We are supposed to be ignoring spaces around the function params.

<a href="{url portal}">click here</a>

The URL for this will be http://localhost/public/ portal which is obviously wrong.

Ok, so this appears to be an encoding issue. The template editor I'm using is putting the %20 encoded space in and the template is not stripping it out.
