I think right now if there is no ROOT node it gets created automatically then all nodes are set to have it as a parent. We should extend this to set parents for nodes which do not have a valid parent. Bit more work, but worth it as it should then keep the existing structure of it is just the root missing.

This can be added in the fsck method and will we just call that when a new root is created.
